LIFE -

Mia Khalifa was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and grew up in a conservative Catholic household. She attended a French-language private school in Beirut and learned English. In 2001, her family moved to the United States due to the South Lebanon conflict, settling in Montgomery County, Maryland. During high school in the U.S., she played lacrosse but faced bullying due to her ethnicity and the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

She continued her education at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia, and eventually earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Texas at El Paso. To support herself during her studies, she worked various jobs, including bartending, modeling, and being a "briefcase girl" on a local game show similar to Deal or No Deal.

film career

Mia Khalifa signed a contract with WGCZ Holding, the parent company of Bang Bros and XVideos, obligating her to appear in multiple films each month. However, just two weeks later, Khalifa had a change of heart and decided to resign. The negative attention she received from her sudden fame made her realize she didn't want any of it, whether positive or negative, as it was taking a toll on her personal life and relationships. WGCZ Holding maintained a website using her stage name but didn't compensate her for the rights.

In a July 2016 interview with The Washington Post, Khalifa revealed that she had only worked in the adult industry for three months and had left over a year earlier to pursue a more conventional job. She admitted it was a rebellious phase and not the right fit for her. Khalifa continued to work as a webcam model for Bang Bros for eleven months after quitting mainstream scenes before being offered a role to host a sports show by Complex Networks. Some criticized her for distancing herself from her previous career, reinforcing social stigma against sex work.

In January 2017, xHamster reported that Khalifa was the most-searched-for adult actress of 2016. Even three years after leaving the industry, she remained one of the top-ranked individuals on Pornhub in 2018. In August 2019, Khalifa disclosed that she made $12,000 in the adult industry, earning around $1,000 per scene, but did not receive residuals from BangBros or Pornhub for the videos. Although the exact revenue from her videos on Pornhub was undisclosed, it was estimated that she could have earned over $500,000 if she had been a Pornhub partner.

In July 2020, a Change.org petition with over 1.5 million signatures called for the removal of her videos from sites like Pornhub and BangBros and the return of her internet domains. BangBros sent her a cease and desist letter and set up a website to challenge statements she made about the company. BangBros claimed that Khalifa had earned over $178,000 from them and their affiliates and had been in the adult industry for more than two years.
